i have already made my own lightsaber hilt and for the hand grip on the hilt i tried using black electrical tape. It worked at first but now the tape has moved all over and it has fallen off. So i was wondering what kind of grip should i use for my hand grip that will stay on metal?

  1. Depending on the texture of the hilt underneath, it may accept a coating of rubber Plasti-Dip.  It comes in spray on, and dip varieties at your local hardware store.  Your hilt may be a little big to dip if you choose the dip can, so you may need to brush it on with a disposable foam brush.   The spray-on type will give a more even coat, but you may need two or three coats to get sufficient coverage. You will have to prepare just as you would for spray paint.

To make Plasti-Dip stick better to bare metal, you may want to prime the area first with some auto primer spray paint.  The auto types of primer are more aggressive, and seem to stick to almost anything.

But before you apply any other grip, you may want to remove all the gooey adhesive from the electrical tape.  I find that Goo Gone works pretty well.  Spritz it on, let it soak into the goo for half a minute or so, and wipe off with a rag.   Then to get rid of the orange oil left behind, use rubbing alcohol sprayed on a clean rag to wipe it down.
