I'm a rising Senior and my friend convinced me to join swim team this year and I went to the local aquatic center to get my times which were 27 s for both free and butterfly. I wasnt allowed to use a block and i was wearing a regular swimsuit not a speedo or jammer so i know the time is not completely accurate, but I still want to know what a "fast" time would be.

  1. The other answer is yard times.  A 27 for a 50m fly is a very fast time.  The league record for where I am containing 25 teams is 26.51.  The free is pretty good.  Free is usually 2 seconds faster than fly.

  2. Really good, Very good, or just made the team?

Event  ------ RG ------- VG -------- Cut time

    200 Free --- 1:46.59 -- 1:59.00 -- 2:20.00

    200 IM  ----- 2:00.68 -- 2:15.00 -- 2:35.00

    50 Free ------- 22.21 ----- 24.00 ---- 30.00

    100 fly --------  53.80 -- 1:05.00  - 1:25.00

    100 Free ----- 48.69 ----- 54.00 -- 1:15.00

    500 Free --- 4:50.25 -- 5:10.00 -- 6:05.00

    100 Back ----- 55.07 -- 1:00.00 -- 1:15.00

    100 Breast --1:02.19 -- 1:08.00 -- 1:20.00

With a 0:27.00 in a 50, you should easily make the team.  Get some training and conditioning, and you could easily whack three seconds off that time.

You can pick up more than a second with a good dive and turn if you focus on those as well.  Better than 0:24 will make you quite competitive.  Get below 0:22 and you're off to the state championship.

Go for it, and good luck.
