I also have a personal recipe for my rats. Do you think is good enough?

A mixture of quick oat, almonds, sunflower seeds, little bits of crunched of walnuts( so theres not too much fat ), and only a little bit of uncooked rice. I may add a bit of the cereals I'm eating, which are the healthy kinds, not the children coloured kinds or any very sugary kinds.

Then I give separately bits of, carrots, apples and sometimes a spoon of yogurt.

I think this is pretty much good enough for a rat to be healthy. Maybe its not 100% nutritionally complete, but its almost.

Does anyone know any good homemade rat food that DOESN'T require any Dog/Cat food? I'm not willing to buy any.

Can I give soy beans too? If yes, does it have to be cooked or uncooked?

Does anyone know any foods rats SHOULDN'T eat?

Thank you in advance.

  1. No, it isn't nutritionally complete at all. Please don't be cheap about your rats' diet. Diet is very important. Either get a high quality food like Regal Rat or feed an appropriate homemade mix. Here is another homemade diet, but it's /complicated/: http://ratfanclub.org/diet.html

You're putting too many nuts and seeds in your own diet, and there isn't enough variety in terms of fresh foods. Rats should get various veggies daily and fruits once or twice a week (since they are high in sugar). Total cereal has a lot of very important vitamins and minerals in it, which is why it's in Suebee's mix.
