  2. Some of them depend on the state you live in. Personally, I like VCS Ohio (Virtual Community Schooling of Ohio). I believe that VCS operates in other states as well. I homeschool my 6 year old through VCS. You can adjust the studies to match the needs of the student. (My girl is 6 and in the first grade, but takes second grade reading and math.)You also have two types of schooling to choose from. "Structured" (which is following the assignments the teacher gives and asks to be turned in) or "Guided" (which is the teacher tells you what needs to be taught to the student, and exactly what things they should learn each year, and you can teach in any style you choose. VCS also gives the tests needed to show that the student is on the learning level they should be). The teachers and staff are always available to help whenever needed. And VCS also offers individual tutoring for those students that need it. A tutor will meet the student at the local library - or another place of your choosing.

They also have programs for early graduation, and a program that allows students that have enough credits to graduate, and can pass the standard graduating exam to take collage courses at a local collage for the last two years of high school. VCS will pay for the courses, and all credits will transfer over when the student enters collage later. They try very hard to help each student not only pass, but excell past the expected standards. Just the convience is awsome!

  3. You need to be aware, as njroadie said, that these programs are generally affiliated with the local or state public school system (yes, charter schools fall under state control - that's where they receive their funding).  This means you would be subject to the same regulations and testing requirements as any other public school student.

Most states have separate statutes covering homeschooling and codify that it is distinctly different from public schooling (even public school at home).  Some states subject homeschoolers to testing, portfolio reviews, and curriculum "approval", many don't, but the laws for homeschooling are different from public school at home.

Make sure you are making an informed choice before you make any decision.

  4. Charter schools will usually pay for internet and computer.

  5. Cyber-school.  In some states your local; school district has to pay for it ....

  6. No homeschool systems pay for this, PUBLIC school at home pays for this. Is is not the same. Real homeschoolers receive no money from the government, no free computer, nothing.

Very important to be clear that you want to attend public school at home, not be homeschooled!
