Also, what steps does one have to go through to be home schooled, and how much does it cost? Also, is there an option to be schooled online?

  1. Actually that is not true, you can do an online school and you can get a diploma ( not a GED ) email me and I will give you more information  that you need

  2. If you are looking for a school that will record your credits for you, you may want to try The Hewitt School.  They are located in Washougal, WA, and I believe the tuition is $50 a month. That does not include books and supplies, though, you may order them directly from the school. We never do because you can almost certainly find them cheaper elsewhere  You send them your work (hard copies, not emailing), and they will grade it and send it back with an evaluation.

  3. Florida has a free virtual school for residents that awards a Florida diploma.

Otherwise you have to borrow books from the library or buy them or buy software offers from companies or programs like ABeka or Penn Foster

  4. Now who on earth told you that?!?! No, you don't get a highschool diploma (from the public school system at least) when you homeschool ANYWHERE, but you DO NOT have to get a GED either. For starters, your parents are legally permitted to issue a home made diploma to you once you've completed your highschool program, but you only really need this if you just want to work after highschool and not go to college, and even then it isn't always necessary for a homeschooler. Secondly, universities DO NOT look for a diploma when admitting a homeschooler.  They only wan tto see you SAT/ACT scores, any other standardized test scores like the AP or CLEP tests, and your transcript which will either be created by the online school you use, or by you and your parents. I am homeschooled in Florida. I am a junior as well and graduating this year because I got so far ahead as a homeschooler. I'm applying to UF. They have the toughest requirements for homeschoolers in this state, but even they don't want a diploma. Just SAT and SAT II subject test scores. FSU doesn't even want that. THey just want the standard stuff. SAT/ACT and transcript. As far as programs, we mix and match to create a custom program. This year I'm using a lot of Glencoe books because they seemed the best choice, but there are also specially designed homeschool curricula that you can find by simply searching "homeschool highschool curriculum" or something similar in Google, or contacting other homeschoolers in our state. You can find others by searching for "Florida homeschool groups". There are many online programs as well that are national programs. Penn Foster, Connections Academy, EPGY, and lots more. Try searching "Online homeschool programs". Florida also has the Florida Virtual High School (FLVHS), but i personally don't like this method as it is basically just public school at home. Good luck, and don't let the lies people tell you about having to get your GED turn you off of homeschooling. Like I said, I'm a junior, very much into the homeschool lifestyle, and I live in Florida. If you need any help, have anymore questions, or just want to talk to another Fl HSer, IM me on AIM at Gryfindorgirl90 or on Windows Messenger (MSN) at Gryfindorgirl90@aol.com

  5. Actually, you shouldn't have to get a GED.  Colleges all over the country accept the transcript and diploma that your parents fill out for you.  You can also get a diploma through any number of charter schools, either online or by correspondence.

As for what is a good program for you, that really depends on you.  There are online and correspondence schools in which you would be accountable to a teacher; there is also the option of (with your parents) putting together your own program.  Both are completely legit, neither requires a GED, and you are able to pick whatever works best for you.

    Good luck!

  6. Did you ever look at Connections Academy? They are a virtual public high school, thats all over the US. I go to it, and its pretty awesome. It's free too because it's public. I'm in 10th grade now, and have been going to it since 7th and its just great. If that doesn't work for you, look around for other online schools.
