I was in Victoria recently. I tried Maharaja on Johnson Street. I stayed at best western Carlton plaza, so it was very convenient as the restaurant was right across the street.  They have buffet both during lunch and dinner, and the food is very decent and inexpensive.

If you are an Indian I would avoid Taj Mahal completely. The restaurant is owned by a Pakistani, who likes to insult Indians. We were treated rudely, made to wait for 1 hr and not served any food. at the end of the wait I was told Tandoor is closed and my order could not be fulfilled. So, I and my family had to walk out hungry at about 10:00pm in the night. Something very similar happened to parents of a friend of mine who went there one day after me. For non-Indians the experience may be different, but if you are an Indian, or don't like discrimination, don't visit this restaurant.
