I am 20 and looking for my first motorcycle. I understand the risks, however this is something i am willing to accept. To somewhat compensate for this, i will take a course, and i am looking for something that might be easier to ride for a first timer. Thanks

  1. get like a ninja 250 or maybe a  honda like a road bike

  2. If you want a cruiser style, look at the Honda Rebel, Suzuki GZ250, or Yamaha Virago 250. In particular, I love the Rebel-- bulletproof bike and a nice looking ride, but not exactly the best seat for longer rides and also not the best choice for riders much over 5'10" or so. (The Honda Nighthawk is another possibility if you are a taller rider - same basic bike underneath.)

Ninja 250s are a decent choice if you are going for a sport bike look, although they are really more of a standard seating position (at least on the 1986-2007 models-- haven't tried the new ones). A Ninja 500 or Suzuki GS500F might not be a bad choice. (I have an older GS500E - they are excellent starter-to-intermediate bikes and they look better too :) )

Right now there aren't many good "small" displacement bikes to choose from in the US market. There are lots of nice bikes from the 80s and 90s that would work, but be careful and bring someone who knows their bikes if you are buying anything secondhand-- particularly important for "classic beginner bikes" like the Ninja 250, since a lot of new riders don't really know much about how to maintain their new purchases. It's very easy to end up with a basket case if you don't know what you're looking for.

  3. I would go with Kymco Venox or Hyosung GV250 both are excellent motorcycles very comfortable will ride two nicely. and they have warranty's not any of the low quality imports out there. Priced better that the Japanese motorcycles. They are not new companies been out there for years use to just make motors for the j*p bikes. I have a Venox and have rode it on trips putting 900+ miles on it no problem. Lower insurance rates than the play race bikes. Just  plain good buys that are fun.

  4. Stay away from sport bikes until you ca n handle a standard one.

Cruisers have a lower center of gravity, and are easier to handle
