Question:

What is a good introductory book on insects?

There are man titles but I am not sure which one would be worth the investment.

I do not want something for kids but something for an adult that is a basic introduction.

Additional titles for reading after the intro books would be welcome, also.

Thanks for taking the time to answer!

  1. Basic for identifying insects would be a Peterson guide.

Basic to learn about the structure, life cycle and habits and classification would be one of the " Introduction to the study of Insects" for college students.  Mine is by Borror and DeLong but it is 1971 edition.  I don't know if it has been redone but any good college bookstore for a school that has Biology degrees should be checked.  I would think you can find the college bookstore on the web and they would sell their books to non-students.

There are many net sites that can help to identify insects.  Just look at the references give to any insect question. I have over 30 in my favorites.

  2. golden books sell paper back field guilds of all sorts and are great for beginners
