I am looking into buying a laptop because after 1 year in college i realized i need my own computer not share a home computer with 3 other people. i need a laptop that has fast speed, can use microsoft office (mostly for word/powerpoint), can store memory and can upload things in case i need to upload a cd or something for class. can download things easily and most importantly have a good wireless internet connection that wont loose signal easily. i was thinking of the macbook air even though i wouldn't be able to use microsoft programs. but if i do purchase that one will i still have another option in programs to be able to write essays easily?

  1. Personally I love my Acer Aspire 5920. It's does all the things I need it to do, works with Office, has a pretty good wireless connection (so far anyways) and isn't oo bad for carrying between Halls and Uni. Also, running on Windows it works much easier with the university network than some of the macs I have seen do.

  2. I have a Toshiba Satellite and it is very reliable! Spilled tea all over the keyboard and its still working! Make sure it has plenty of memory and try to get one with an Intel Duo processor. Also make sure it has a dvd drive because you will use your laptop for more things than work such as entertainment. One thing I can say is not to get a Dell laptop as mine died after only a few weeks of use and had to get the Toshiba!

  3. its better to go off with a toshiba. they are fast and have good overeall performance. never get a gateway they suck and arent reliable unlike the toshiba. you can also consider a sony laptop, that good as well.

  4. OMG!!! I have the best laptop, its Vaio Laptop, seriously its awesome and nice & im in college 2 so yea its cool and fantastic to use ,

  5. I wouldn't get a MacBook Air, because it doesn't have a CD drive. Personally, I love my MacBook (just the basic one), and it does run Microsoft Office. It's the most popular laptop among college students. The reason I like it especially are:

    1. It doesn't come with extra stuff on it like most PCs that only make the computer run slower

    2. The keys are really quiet, so when I'm working late I don't wake up other people

    3. It turns on faster than any other computer I've ever used

    4. They last a long time

The only thing that's bad about it is the price, but if you can afford it, I would go for it. Whatever you do, DON'T GET A DELL!! I had one, and it died after 2 years, right after I replaced the battery that died, and would literally take 20 minutes to turn on. Oh, and I had to replace the power cord 3 times, for 50 bucks each time.

  6. Don't get a Mac.  Macs are all show and no go, and they're insanely overpriced.  Just get a good HP laptop.  I have one and I love it.

  7. You didn't mention a budget, but given that you're a college student, I'm going to assume you want a laptop with as low a price as possible.

If you want a fast laptop, I would NOT recommend the macbook Air--it is the most expensive Apple laptop, yet, when compared side-by-side with other Apples, it is also the slowest.  If you consider Apple, look at the Macbooks, along with purchasing Microsoft Office:Mac editions (Microsoft Office can run on Apple laptops, but you need to buy a different type of Microsoft Office)

In terms of PCs, if you want a fast laptop, you should be looking at an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, Intel Core Duo, or AMD Turion X2 processor.  You will want no less than 2 gb of memory, and probably no less than 120gb of hard drive storage.

Personally, I prefer HP Pavilion laptops, but they are a "higher-end" brand with more features that will increase the cost of your laptop.  For a cheaper laptop, consider a Toshiba.

  8. i love my sony vaio....everything else is a doorstop...
