Going to buy a laptop soon. What is the best value for money?

Dell, Acre, Hewlett Packard, Toshiba, Compaq?

Has anyone had any faults with a particular brand?

  1. Really don't bother with hp (and Compaq which is hp's economic brand).  Both Dell and Acer are good value for money.  Though acer has some of the better builds but are let down on the customer service so both dell and acer are around the same.  Toshiba and sony generally are build quite well but you pay so much more then you should just for the name.  Its really not worth it because for the same money you will get quite a low performance laptop.  So unless you can afford the extra for the name go for dell or acer.

  2. All brands of laptop can get faults or break down. My prefered laptop would be a MacBook or MacBook Pro

    They can run Windows too.

  3. Apples are very good. There are faults with all brands. When you find a model you think might be right for you google it and find as made reviews as you can... you'll also notice forum results with people complaining that they are having problems, if this is the case probably best to avoid that model.

Dell have the best customer service, they'll even come to your house/work to fix the machine (assuming you've paid for NBD warranty).

Generally Apple, Dell, Sony make the finest laptops (all come with slight price premium- but well worth it)
