What is a good laundry detergent that is environmentally friendly?

Ohh, the one I use is by Arm and Hammer. I think it's Arm & Hammer Essentials.

It doesn't even use any petroleum based chemicals. It's all derived from organic plant oils. It's perfectly biodegradable and safe.

Even the container is made from recycled plastic ;p and it works really good

I use Method and love the stuff!  They have ones with scents or free and clear.  Neither leave your clothes smelling like BO.  I tried that Seventh Generation stuff and it made my clothes smell bad!  Method also has dryer sheets.  They can be used at least twice.
