I am looking for something that will throw off quite a bit of light, is preferably smaller, and costs no more than about 50 to 60 dollars.

  1. Two models from Underwater Kinetics come to mind in your price range. Both are LED's. There's the Q40  http://www.uwkinetics.com/product/4  that you can attach to your mask or use the included lanyard. It runs on 4 AA's. I have the older incandescent bulb model with the mask attachment for use as one of my back ups. They're small and lightweight , yet throw off a good beam.

The other is a C cell light, the SL4. http://www.uwkinetics.com/product/9

Double the light emission but you pay a bit of a weight penalty because of the weight of the larger batteries. Hands free is not an option with this model.

I'm a bit of a fan of UK's, never had an issue with them and as an avid wreck diver, I give them a pretty good workout. I have had a Pelican fail at an inconvenient moment.

  2. Pelican and UK both make good dive lights and you can get a small one for about 30 bucks at your local dive shop.
