  1. nooooo never ask if they received it. Ask about the "status" of your application. So : hi my name is_________i put in an application on the ____of this month and i'm calling to inquire about the status of it. Sounds more professional and the manager will respect that. Asking if they got it yet is pretty tacky.

  2. Sorry buddy, politeness will get you NOWHERE!  Be much more assertive and direct.

After the status check and an answer, tell them you will be in the area on _____day and you wish to schedule an interview.  Then ask, "Who is the hiring manager who will be interviewing me?"

THEN, research the name on LinkedIN or google it to FIND the phone or email and personally make contact.  OR, find someone else who works in the company and try to get a recommendation.

If nothing else, they might hire you (after validating your qualifications) because of your persistence!

    Good LUCK!

  3. That's a good start. Then tell them you're extremely interested in the opening and then possibly set up an interview.
