  1. I always try and read books with bright colors, and LOTS of pictures. I also try and find books that offer different textures throughout the book (Ex: Books about animals) Anything that is bright usually always captivates an infant!

  2. Board books with bright colors and simple words are always good.

One of favorites was "Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs" by Sandra Boynton.

And "Goodnight Moon" is a wonderful classic.

  3. Dr Seuss books are fun b/c of the sing-songy nature of the words and all the rhyming. An infant might not sit still through a whole book, but that isn't a big deal

There is an author, Leslie Petricelli, who has great simple books about opposites. My son loved them at 9 mos and still does at 19 mos.

Also, babies love animals and some of their 1st sounds will be simple animal sounds. Big picture books with animals and textured pages are fabulous for infants. Here are a couple examples my son enjoyed:

There are also a lot of picture books geared toward 1st words and simple, real life concepts with pictures rather than illustrations.

Of course, infants learn and absorb so much. Even reading the newspaper outloud while they are lying on the floor is great. They need exposure to language and any reading is beneficial. Good for you for chosing books =)

  4. we read good night moon, how much do you love me,  biggest most beautiful christmas tree, the catapillar book.

  5. Dr. Seuss books.

  6. Skippy jon jones of the Siamese cat!!

  7. ANYTHING! just reading itself is so good for baby.

however, these have been ruby's favorites, in chronological order, starting from two weeks old.

(and, because i am a grammar lover, i have to add that these titles should be underlined, not in quote marks. but i'm lazy:)

"Truck" it's wordless, small, cardboard, award-winning. she stared at this one as a little tiny newborn

"Ella Elephant Scats Like That" this is by far the best book ever. we still read this all the time. and it comes with a baby jazz cd that ruby has always adored. definitely get this one.

"Ruby In Her Own Time" a great one, lyrical, beautiful illustrations. she used to kick like crazy everytime i read the father duck's lines.

"Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" a recent fave
