for an inexpensive car kia and Hyundai models are lasting very well and are easy to service yourself if you choose, replacement parts are a little higher than expected but not unreasonable.

there are several fords that are worth looking at [in the past 10 yrs this is the only american brand that has improved itself] [while i have never been a fan of the blue oval in the past , grudgingly my opinion is changing] there is a lot of good stuff here.

volvo's while pricey,  are always a good value, these will last [with proper service] as long as you wish them to be around.

i can no longer in good faith recommend anything from germany vw-audi, bmw, and even mercedes are all has beens that are trading on their former good names.[ only mercedes has improved some in past 5 yrs. but is not expected to ever match the quality that was standard during the day's of their 123,126,107. bodied cars] engine management problems, poor design of evaporative systems,cheap plastics that are not u-v resistant and in car electronic failures are all too common on ALL german cars

regardless of where assembled..

in the auto business it is either put up or shut up [especially in the high end market] lexus rules here.

go to ANY high end dealer first. test drive, listen to sales pitch, walk through service area, inspect the dealers back lot and service compound first then go to a lexus dealer have them put a comparable competing car on the lift and one of their cars right beside it on the next lift down. you will find better quality materials throughout the lexus and much closer attention to detail [a german dealer will not even do this comparason]

Honda/Acura is the longest lasting.

Toyota/Lexus/Scion is the 2nd longest lasting.

Subaru is the third lasting longest brand.

I think any GM cars a good long lasting car to buy but stay away from Cadillac's.Most of them is cheap on repairs.
