What is a good matte foundation? and any tips for applying it?

I need some new foundation. In a quite light shade.

I don't like oily foundations, so I'd like a nice matte foundation.

Any tips for applying it?

Any primers or finishing powders you'd suggest, also?

I used Maybellines dream matte moose for like 3 years. Iv only just stopped using it. The thing is its thick and the coverage is very good. But this is only useful if you have bad skin. It can block pores and create spots. Which if you have skin in perfect condition is definatly not worth using. If you have no problems with spots etc, I would reccomend Rimmels moose, as it is lighter and cooler. Also the shades are more realistic. Trust me all these people are saying the Maybelline version is good. But does you no favors and you can end up with worse skin! Hope I've helped!

a good matte foundation is the dream matte mouse foundation by mabelline. Use a sponge and rub it in evenly!

I am one of the people who just do not like dream matte mousse although I know many people love it!  Have you tried a mineral foundation - these tend to be matte finish although not the best if you have oily skin.  I use GOSH primer, then Clinique super-balanced foundation, which I find great for my combination skin, I apply it using my fingertips to get a nice finish.  There are two powders I then choose from.  The first is Clinique gentle light, now this is not a "matte" finish powder in my opinion, but more of a shimmery light reflecting finish.  If I want a matte finish I use good old Corn-silk, you can get it in superdrug or boots and i have both the loose and compact version - i prefer the loose though.  Its translucent so will not affect the tone of your foundation.  You will find corn-silk in with the skin care section as opposed to the make up section.

With regards to application of traditional foundation.  I hate sponges, they just soak up the product and I think they are just awful!  A brush is good and it does mean you can build up the amount of product, just make sure you use light downwards sort of strokes to follow the fine downy hairs we have on our face!  But I prefer to use my finger tips, I find the warmth of my fingers helps the product absorb to my skin and its easier to blend round the hairline and neck than with a brush.

cover girl trublend, its not oily at all... and the best way to put on foundation is with your fingers, just make sure you wash your hands first because you dont want to transfer all that bacteria to your skin! as far as finishing powders go, i definitely recommend anything by physicians formula. their products are great!

Try Maybelline dream matte mousse foundation I LOVE this stuff. It goes on really soft and blends well. A little goes along way with this stuff. Try pureluxe for finishing powerder, I like Aprils Mix

Get a water based foundation like Rimmel cool matte, its fab!! Its very cooling on the skin.

a good way to apply it is with a foundation sponge and i have tryed quite a lot of matte foundation and they are all quite oily but cool matte mouse it quite good!
