My son is in his first year of varsity football. He has a scrimmage today at 6 but has to be at the field at 345. What can I feed him before he goes that will stick to his ribs but not be too heavy? He was on JV last year and they played right after school at 4 so this is a new thing for me...

Thanks!

  1. pastas.....they work great...

  2. steak

  3. pasta chicken all of those good things and lots of carbs and water then do the same after the game

  4. carbs, like pasta and bread

  5. Bananas are high in potassium which prevents cramps. Also pasta is a good food to eat. granola bars would also be a good snack.

  6. Pasta is very dense with carbs.  Eating a big plate of pasta the night before a game will leave you with plenty in the tank the next evening.

  7. Carbohydrates are good for providing him the energy that he needs.  When I was in HS, our coaches ordered pregame meals of spaghetti or mostaccioli, with salad and breadsticks.  It'll give him the nutrition he needs, as well as a rush of energy.  When he gets home from practice, he might be hungry for a little something - tuna or chicken salad are lean enough, and loaded with protein, to give him a good refreshing snack.

  8. Pasta

  9. I got to agree with everyone here, pasta is great due to it is full of carbs which will provide energy! I would not say steak as it is a meat loaded with protein and other nutrients that needs time to digest before activity. Good luck!

  10. instead give him 1 or 2 PB&J sandwiches, 1 water, 1 gatorade, a banana and some sort of salt snack. i know it sounds like a lot, but you want him to eat it in a slow pace. example, eat 1 banana and PB&J during school(brunch), water and a salt snack(lunch) and maybe a gatorade right before the game. but i will say that, he will probably to go to the bathroom and take a number 2. thats a good thing, it gets rid of the useless stuff in his body that he doesn't need, while the good stuff still in his body. but yea, switch it up, sandwich at lunch with water and a salt snack and a gatorade, etc. hope that helped

  11. Just give him lots of carbs in moderate portions, then more carbs after the game.

  12. past or bread
