  1. Will there be other children there too?  All kids like Chicken Fingers, so you could oven bake some chicken tenders, and then oven-bake regular pieces for the adults ...  or BBQ hot dogs (for the kids) and hamburgers ...  all kids love French fries and tater tots, and those would be good with either chicken or BBQ.  Cut up fruit, and a veggie platter ....

See if your grocery bakery makes cupcake cakes.  They look like a cake from the top (all the icing goes together), but they pull apart, because it's made up of cupcakes.  This is alot easier for kids to handle and they're really cute!  They'll do virtually any theme for you....

  2. Baby Food

  3. A big veggie platter with baby carrots, baby tomatos, cucumber slices, and broccoli / cauliflower as an appetizer. Serve with a mild ranch dip.

Buy a big package of cocktail weiners and a package of bamboo skewers. Poke one end of the cocktail weiner in, and boil for a few minutes. Easy to drain by pulling out of the pan by the skewer! A bowl full of ketchup and mustard makes for fun dipping.

Mini salads or baked beans in cupcake papers are great!! Helps prevent spillage off plates, too.

Precooked meatballs, in a crockpot with a can of gravy, simmered for a few hours.... YUMMY!!!! Especially delicious with a platter of small soft buns.

Great dessert ideas are homemade ice cream sandwiches ( between two small cookies ), or cupcakes.

The main theme here is to go with bite sized " snacky" foods in abundance, so no one goes hungry, but little is wasted on picky eaters. Perfectly " kid portioned " and helps to control the mess!

    Good luck!

  4. it would be cute to have everything mini.  Mini hot dogs, mini pizzas, mini sandwiches, etcs.

  5. Make it something your son will have fun eating. If it's nice then eat outside so you don't have to worry about the mess (as much). Sloppy joes are extremely fun to eat (that is, if you trust him enough with them!) and everyone loves them. French fries or tater tots are also a great side that everyone likes.

If you don't feel comfortable with sloppy joes, I think pigs in a blanket would be good. Serve this with fries or tater tots as well. You could also have baked beans, salad bar, and fresh fruit.

Or a Mexican food buffet would be awesome! My aunt did this for my younger cousins birthday just a few months ago and it was a hit! She had everything-- crunchy taco shells, soft taco shells, tortillas, tortilla chips, seasoned cooked ground beef, plenty of salsa, sour cream, guacamole, plenty of shredded cheese, Spanish rice, refried beans, black beans and corn, guacamole, cheese dip for nachos, and more. It was wonderful! And it's easier then you would expect!

  6. for the adults, try something your family/friends like.

make it where there are lots of options.

  7. pizza !!!

  8. Are you talking about for the guests? Usually a child's 1st b-day party is more for the parents since the child doesn't really know what is going on, so I'll assume that is what you are asking. I would go with something simple, it is going to be a busy day enough for you with entertaining. Depending on the time of year, a cookout is great - less clean up afterwards! Or perhaps lasgna, served with salad and bread - it could be prepared ahead of time and then just pop it in the oven that day. Of course you will have b-day cake for dessert !!

  9. Well if you are having family over, you could have pasta and sauce with salad and bread. Something the little one can enjoy.  Don't forget the birthday cake!!
