What is a good messaging client that has email notification?

Hi all,

I've been using Pidgin for a while now for my MSN messaging and I'm starting to get a bit sick of it. It doesn't alert me when I get emails even though it should be. Can anyone recommend me a Client that will have a pop-up box that tells me when I get new mail? I'm keen to not use Live Messenger, but will fit here no other options.
