I would like it to be on that can pick up sound from in front of the camera NOT behind so we can talk about the shots and stuff while the cam is rolling and not here us.

  1. If you are like most people and do not live in a city that has a video supply store, go to your local music supple store.  They will have a multitude of microphones, adapters, and cables to fit your exact audio needs.  They will also be able to oder the same types of microphones used in video productions.

You can also look up videographers or videography in your local phone book and ask them who are their suppliers.  You may also be able to visit them for their advice and help.  They may also help you experiment with their equipment and expertise to find out the best setup for your situation.

  2. i would definitly recomend a shure. these microphones are the best. i own one and it has never failed. you can buy one at kenstanton music stores ro also at guitar center. their only 99.99. hope that helped!

  3. If you don't want to be heard, then you need to be quiet especially if the mic is near the camera and you are near the camera.

When you go to a real filming, the first thing they say before rolling is "QUIET ON THE SET"...

You have a couple of other options... like place the mic closer to the audio source you want to record so the mic is not attached to the camcorder.

A directional "shotgun" mic will also help.

The Audio Technica ATR-55 is an OK affordable mic.

But your BEST method is to not talk.
