What is a good model for a DSLR?

Question

And I mean a cheap one but still a good one. I'd like to learn more about photography as well. If you know some tips and techniques, put that in as well. Thanks!

I highly recommend Canon XTi(400D). It offers the same pro features that you would find in high end Canon/Nikon cameras.

The Rebel XTi is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup so you can mount high end lenses like L series on XTi. You can also mount any Canon flashes such as the great 580ex II on XTi.

I'll take a canon EVERY time. You can now find the old XT used for under $400.

i guess you want an entry level dslr camera ,since you havent mentioned the price range you could go for nikon's d40 ,40x.and d60 if u are willing to spend $700,it is the worlds smallest dslr.easy to use ,takes stunning pictures & as far as the other brand is considered ie canon ,it wont be good you go for it as it is not for amatures.nikon is far better and easy to use .i suggest for a any nikon dslr above.

How cheap....because good DSLRs are not very cheap... not for the camera, lenses, flash, accessories.  It can get pretty pricey.

There is the Nikon 40D pr 60D / or the Canon Xt or Xti.

Either of these are good choices and many of the Yahoo Camera contributors use one of them.   The Canon people will  recommend Canon and the Nikon people will recommend Nikon.

I shoot both Nikon and Canon...  but of the ones mentioned above, I have the Canon XT and XTi.   I really like these cameras.  The XT is so user friendly....  my 10 year old student learned to use it in one day.  He was shooting in manual mode and manual focus after about 2 hours.  

So you might have to save a little money, but you will enjoy shooting digital.
