What is a good modem to purchase for high speed gaming?

I live in Australia and am looking to purchase a new modem as I am currently considering upgrading my connection to ADSL2. My current connection is standard ADSL. I primarily access the internet for high speed gaming on the PS3, however I wish to have my computer connected as well, so I would like a 4 port modem. Bigpond is my current service provider, however I may change this later in the year.

A 4 port modem?? Depending on your ISP, when you upgrade your service, they may give you a new modem if the current one you have doesn't support the higher connection. If it does, then you don't need a new modem. I would just get a router to attatch to the modem because it adds the hardware firewall feature.

how much money you got lol....t1 or t3 is the best for gaming.  I dotn know if its avalible in australia though.  Basicaly check your local isps and see how many mbps they can give you.  For most gaming your gonna want at least 3-5.  T1 will give you tons lol.  Also if your gonna wanan play agaist other contries you might want ot ask about there transfer rates to american servers.  IDK about austraila, but in england it is slow to access other contries sites on some isps.  Also, most mutiplayer games are baced off of american servers.

Just some info you might need to know before you make your decisions.

- Australia has the worlds 2nd slowest net connection (And yes, im from Australia).

- Fastest current residential connection is 20MB DL, 1.5MB upload, with a shocking price of $90-$160 per month, depending how much download limit you have.

- Try looking for a netcomm or netgear modem, as they have good productivity for money. (You're looking around $150 for a ADSL2+ modem).
