  1. This might be a bit more information than you want, but...

Keep in mind that bikes in your price range are NOT mountain bikes. They are considered "all terrain" or "sport" bikes intended for on the road and offroad on groomed trails, perhaps up to rain ruts and buried baby head sized boulders.

Anyway, I second the suggestion that you look at KHS. The Alite series is certainly an excellent value. You would also be remiss if you didn't include Raleigh, Diamondback, and bike shop quality Mongoose and Schwinn (NOT the department store versions).

Walk into several local bike shops, explain to them how you ride, what you want and how much you want to spend, and take your pick.

  2. I would strongly reccommend Diamondback bikes they make mountain, bmx, and any other bike u can think of!

  3. Rocky Mountain

  4. I enjoy my Fuji Nevada 2.0. Great bike with no problems so far.

  5. Everyone has their own preference on brands. I'm fairly new to the sport but i LOVE my Specialized it might be a little more than your higher bracket but well worth. They have been making bikes since 1974 and offer a lifetime warranty(to the original owner) They look great, are very fun to ride, and are very strong frames. You could try and find a 2007 brand NEW closeout at a discount.

  6. KHS bikes are a good place to start. Pls see link below:

They make excellent but moderately priced bikes. For your budget you could choose between their Alite 100, 200, 300 or 500 series.

Believe me you'll never regret it. My first bike was a KHS Alite 500 and I'm planning to upgrade to their Alite 2000 or Alite Team series.
