I am looking to buy a new bicycle for a daily commute each way of 4 miles on city streets. I haven't been on a bicycle since I was a kid and I'm 6'2" 240 lbs. Any suggestions?

  1. Look for a bike without a suspension fork and 700c tires.   Check out the Trek 7000 or FX series to get started(Dont get stuck on brandnames; this is just a starting point for your research).   You could also ride a mountain bike (with 26 or 29" tires) with slicks instead of knobbies.  I commute with my Gary Fisher mountain bike and it works great(its got 26" wheels).

  2. get a bike without a suspension fork and 700c tires. Check out the Trek 7000 or FX series. check for motain bikes

  3. Specialized and TREK both make excellent bikes for commuting. Personally I use a TREK 7200FX, if city streets were my only way to travel I would take a close look at their Soho line. I would recommend visiting a lot of bike shops and riding a lot of bikes. Look at different accessories that will fit the frame(racks, panniers, etc.) Ask questions at the different shops. (Shopping for them is almost as much fun as riding!)

    Have fun!
