What is a good non-toxic alternative to bleach? For whitening laundry and disinfecting bathrooms etc?

I've read about tea tree oil for disinfection......how well does it work? And what is the ratio of oil:water?

Vinegar, Cleans and whitens and disinfects everything

Try borax or laundry bluing. Both will make your white clothes sparkle.

I don't know about using tea tree for cleaning I have used tea tree shampoo. It's OK

Hydrogen Peroxide  is a great solution for what you are looking for, I use this and for so many things, give it a try. It has been overlooked for a life time.  Most people have it on hand.

I used it  to clean a mirror the other day an was very pleased with the results.

It is cheap and very safe.

You can wash down counter tops, use it as you would use any disinfectant.

The only thing I would caution you on is treat it as bleach don't use it on something that may take the color out test first.

Pour ½ cup of your hydrogen peroxide in the bleach cup/section of your washing machine. If your washing machine does not have this section, allow the washer to fill to the load level before placing the clothing in the washer and pour the hydrogen peroxide directly into the water. Allow the washer to agitate a few times before placing the clothing in. This distributes the peroxide.

if you have the time and patience you can try this old fashion remedy,

put a large pot on the stove fill it with water add some coarse salt and 2 lemons cut into wedges add all your white and bring it to boil ,let it boil for 20 minuted ,turn the stove off and let it cool , wash as you normally would , no bleach required here!

For the bathroom use white vinegar
