Question:

What is a good outing for a 2.5 month old?

My son is 2.5 months old now and I've really been craving some family time with just me, my husband, and our son (we've had a lot of extended family time recently). I want to go somewhere as a family but can't think of anything we can do. I want it to be something that doesn't wear him (or us) out. We live in Houston so it couldn't be something that puts us outdoors for long cause it would be miserable (even in September)! Any suggestions?

  1. Children that young DO enjoy outings. They enjoy the new environment and are always learning. Studies show that the more visual stimulation infants are exposed to, the higher the IQ when they reached four years of age. So bring your baby to a place where there are lots of different visuals than what he is used to. He will get a kick out of just looking around and enjoying the view.

We just brought my 11 week old upstate by the mountains. He loved looking at the lake, the cows, the cabins. He knew he was in a different place and I could tell he really enjoyed himself.

  2. We take our 11 weeks old in the stroller for a walk at the park NEAR water so it is cooler. We stop and let her watch the geese and the dogs in the dog park and then she usually sleeps at some point. We throw a blanket in the grass and have a picnic. I carry a breastfeed cover along to feed her and we make a day of it.

  3. Do you have an Aquarium nearby that you can visit? It's an indoor thing and will get you out and about without having to endure the heat.   When the weather gets cooler, you can also stroll around a zoo.

  4. Take him to the Aquarium! He will love all the colors, and seeing all the fish and other sea creatures! It will be enjoyable for all of you, and very relaxing!

  5. As far as being outdoors you could try at least a walk around the block. Something even as short as that while you are pointed out things (trees, yellow flowers, sky, clouds, etc.) is a good idea. Babies love to hear your voices. Or you can also go to a local mall to walk around for a bit. Check out a few interesting stores. If baby lets you, you can sit down for lunch somewhere. When it's not the hottest part of the day you can put a swimmer and swim trunks on (no sunscreen that young; not til 6 months) and a wide brimmed hat and go swimming at a local pool or purchase one of those kiddie pools and put it in your yard and go in that for a short while.

  6. Do children that young really understand what they are doing or seeing? You could spend money to take him out or just keep him at home with some nice toys -- he can't tell the difference

  7. I have never understood why people want to take babies that young outside. I worked at an aquarium and remember seeing some lady sitting outside in the heat with what had to be, a barely 1 month old. You can have family time at home.

  8. Check out this website it might be just what your looking for. Remember small babies enjoy vibrant colors, be creative.

  9. Maybe make some reservations for a nice resort, my sister just recently went to the one in gaveston and said it was really nice. The website looked appealing and you could still bring your baby or just making dinner reservations to a nice place to eat and spend time alone. Is your baby usually quiet? Mine always cried so we couldnt really go to many places without being noisy. Good luck!
