I plan on enlisting for the Marines in a couple of years, and yes It is what I want to do, and I want to make a career out of it.

Now, I was just wondering what pace do the Marines run at, Fast, Medium, Slow? I run 4.5 miles every Monday-Friday, and I haven't found the right pace for me yet, and I was wondering what would be a good pace for the Marines and such?

  1. Practice or training should be around 7-8 minutes per mile this is what you will be required to do to pass the PT.

  2. The basic PFT is 3 miles with a perfect being 18 mins.   As long as you can run it in 21 mins or less youll be fine and paced w most of the others.  Boot camp runs are rather easy compared to SOI and especially fleet runs though.   It all depends on your MOS.  If you can run 6 miles over rough terrain at a vigorous rate then youll be one of the better runners in the Marine Corps.  Since you have time on your hands Id recommend working on endurance first and then speed or hill runs.

  3. If you can run a 6 minute mile for 3 miles straight (18 minutes) Then that is a perfect score on the Marine physical fitness test. However, especially if you go into the infantry, you WILL run longer distances so it cant hurt to run farther. But if you can run 4-5 miles comfortably at a good pace, you'll be far ahead of most people who join.

  4. Google UK forces tabbing or yomping.
