  1. Are you a parent? Know that whatever pet you get will be your pet: you'll care for it, you'll pay for it. Kids will say things like "I'll take care of it, promise." but not mean it. Kids just cant take on such a huge responsibility, and I hate to say it, but kids (especially nowadays) are *lazy*.

Research whatever you are interested in, there are ups and downs to all things: dogs, cats, fish, rodents, birds, etc. There are also more specific ups and downs when you break it down to breed, type, etc.

  2. mice they are easy fun and cheaper than hamsters

  3. I think a Beagle is the best dog for kids.  They don't have an aggressive bone in their body.

  4. golden retriver, hamster, fish...

all depending on how much you want to put into the pet. i had 18 fish when i was 6yrs old. they all died after a month though, so i wouldn't recomend fish.

  5. I think that kids should start out with a fish or an aquatic animal so that you can insure responsibility and make sure that the kids understand how to take care of pets. Then after you have made sure of that, you can probably trust them with animals such as parakeets and dogs. Some people often even entrust the care of horses to kids. It depends on the kids' personality and their responsibility level. If they are active kids that will rough house with their pets, maybe a kid-friendly, easy to trarin dog? It they are more gentle perhaps a cat or a bird? Good luck!

  6. PLEASE!! Before you buy a pet, read a couple of books about the animal -- how to raise it, train it, feed it, cure it, house it, etc. To merely go to the pet shop and pick up a puppy or other animal without any idea of these things is wrong for your children, and cruel to the animal.

  7. Fish are great if your child doesn't mind the fact that it can't be played with. If you are thinking about getting a dog, I would suggest a very unaggressive outgoing breed. Beagles and labs are good for younger children, they are a tolerant, family oriented breed. Just make sure that your child knows and respects rules you provide regarding how to treat the animal respectfully.

  8. Anything YOU are prepared to look after he he. Kids are kids. If you want low maintenance then a fish tank with goldfish is fairly simple. Go to a proper aquarium, not a pet store franchise, as they have better quality stock and are usually better on price. If you keep feeding to pellets and in small quantities (make sure you have an internal power filter) you don't have to put in too much work.

Hermit crabs are good as well, they just need heat, salt water, fresh water, a heat lamp and crab pellets/fruit/veg. If they stay warm then they are active

Also you don't have the hassle of escapees!

  9. It depends on the age of the kids...... But I would reccommend a Papillon for a small dog that is easy to house train, obedent, they are small, and just love you to DEATH! lol

I hope you find a pet!

  10. Get a fish. It's easy.

  11. I have to say a cat or a dog because i have two cats and a dog there really nice, kind, and there really fun to play with.

  12. I would not get a dog or cat for a child until they are 9 or 10. Young children pull their tails, and ears and drop them sometimes.  A Bata-fish is pretty cool....just one to a bowl because they fight each other and kill each other.  They come in pretty colors also..red, blue.

  13. Remember, no pet is a good pet for a small child. Maybe the best age to get a pet for a child would be 6 or 7 years old. I would say get a dog, and pick a patient breed that can and will tolerate being rough-housed with.

  14. i bought a Siberian Husky as a pup when my son was a toddler.  she lloved him and vice versa.  he could lay on her and she never made a sound.  however she was very protective of him and the yard.   now we have mini dauschunds and they are also very lovable.

maybe research the dog your kids want to check their personality and behaviors.

  15. a golden retriever! they rock... cat are okay, but thy sink up the house.
