My mom is 44 yrs old and is having a small private wedding in San Francisco. She wants to go eat and dance afterwards. Any suggestions as to where to go?

  1. Depends on her musical taste---Jazz at Pearls (dine at their sister restaurants nearby), Supperclub on Harrison, Hornblower Yachts do dinner/dance cruises, Shanghai 1930

For elegant, I would suggest Top of the Mark, or Ritz-Carlton

  2. Top of the Mark would be great, very classy.

Or have a lovely dinner at Scala Bistro, then go upstairs to Harry Denton's Starlight Room for dancing.

Or in keeping with the private wedding, you could also rent a small private room at the Carnelian Room on top of the Bank of America tower, and bring in your own little jazz combo for dancing.

And finally, Bix would work.  Delicious dinner up on the Mezzanine, then downstairs to the speakeasy for dancing to the jazz combo.  More casual and comfortable than the other places above, but still very nice.

And my very best wishes to your mom.

  3. My husband and I got married in SF, same thing, small wedding and we went to a really elegant dinner at Acquarello which was delicious Italian food in an old church (perfect for wedding attire as it's formal dress code). http://www.acquerello.com/

Then we went dancing and had drinks at Top of the Mark, which someone already mentioned. http://www.topofthemark.com/entertainmen...

That is a great, traditional "dancing" place for mature people. I don't mean mature like gray hair and walkers, but not a night club. It's classy jazz music you can dance to. We rented a limo to take us from place to place since there weren't that many of us, and that made it really easy to get from one point to the other without having to worry about parking. It also gave us the ability to zip all over town to have our wedding pictures taken in front of the "Painted Ladies", China beach, Japanese Tea Garden, Shakespeare Garden, etc.

I personally wouldn't recommend going to Jazz at Pearls for seveal reasons. The first being that it's an actual concert venue, which means no talking. I think that on the night of a wedding, it kind of brings the celebration to an abrupt halt to go sit and watch a jazz show. It's better to go somewhere that has live jazz to have drinks where you can still socialize and celebrate.  Secondly, something dreadful is going on at Pearl's. I'm not sure if they are under new management or just going through some kind of issue but the last few times we were there, they were totally disorgnized and the staff was rude, so something has changed. It's still a neat place to go see a good traditional jazz show, but not on your wedding night. The staff at the Top of the Mark is top notch, very classy place.

  4. The Sir Francis Drake Hotel is a pretty descent place to host a wedding reception. It's next to the cablecar line which is pretty San Franciscianish, Harry Denton Nightclub is right upstairs, Walgreen is accross the street for the 1 hour developing of pictures with the disposable cameras, etc.

  5. top of the mark
