If you 're looking for an acoustic, then the best on-line store is Elderly Music at www.elderly.com.  Their prices are the same as the megga stores like musician's friend but they do a complete set -up and inspection of all the guitars they sell.  For electrics, it doesn't matter as much, but check it out anyway.
