What is a good portable GPS system to buy for my car?

I need to get a portable GPS system.

It cannot be an in-dash one because I have a 2000 Toyota Camry.

Also it must be one of the talking ones that tells you where to go. I will be traveling from Indiana to St. Louis so I need one that has an accurate map.

So, I'm looking for the best GPS I can get for a good price. Can anybody tell me what type to buy? If you can provide me with a link it would be even better!

  1. nuvii 200 its by garmin. I love it.

  2. Months back I was having the same dilemma. I looked at every single brand you can imagine, from the most expensive $700+ units to the lower end brands. I finally settled on GPS for dummies. Now I know it is not as popular as the others but I'm telling you it gets the job done every time & I am someone that is terrible with directions. I've never gotten lost and I've driven to places that I've never been before on my own. Something I don't think I would have had the confidence to do beforehand. If you're not a label w***e I'd definitely look into it.

  3. It is not an easy question to answer but you can't go wrong with the top 3 GPS manufacturers PND models they have to offer.

With that said, Garmin currently is the most popular GPS model in NA, selling about 55% of all PND GPS sold in NA.

If price is no an issue, try the Garmin Nuvi 880 which is currently Garmin top of the line PND model. If you wish to save a few bucks, try the Garmin Nuvi 760 which is an excellent choice. Don't buy EOL stuff since you will want to have a model that is supported for a while.

If you feel Garmin is not for you, consider the TomTom 930 or the Magellan Maestro 4250 or 4050.

You can also consider buying the NOH Garmin Nuvi 760 for only $329 from Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc that includes the Garmin factory ONE year factory warranty, the unit comes with pretty much everything you will need on a GPS device or if you are worry about cost but wish to have a portable GPS that includes TTS, try the Magellan RoadMate 2200T NOH for only $119.00 again from Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc.

It maybe easier for you to rent these GPS first from GPS4Rent to test drive each unit to make sure the unit will function to your expectation before committing to one.

You can find all the models I have described here on Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc website at http://www.autonav2000.com/default.asp or you can visit GPS4Rent and rent one. To find out more about the rental program click on this link http://www.gps4rent.com/

You can't really go wrong with any of the TOP THREE GPS manufacturers Garmin, TomTom and Magellan.

    Good Luck

  4. tomtom go, works wonderful you can pick one up on ebay cheep.

  5. Without Multimedia (music/video functions)

    Garmin StreetPilot c340

    Price Range $125-$175

    With Multimedia

    Garmin StreetPilot c550

    Price Range: $150-$200

Regardless of the GPS system you eventually purchase be sure to uplink via USB and download any new software/map upgrades to insure correct info after purchase.

http://www.gpsreview.net/  is a great resource as well and has a variety of purchase links to the above mentioned GPS
