  1. It kind of depends on how far away you will be shooting from.  There are a lot of smaller calibers that will be good for prairie dogs.  If you wanted a gun that you could use for quite a few different types of hunts, I would say a .243.  You could also use a .22 or .17 or anything else for that matter.  It is really just a personal preference thing.  When we shoot prairie dogs, I use a .22 with a scope, and a .300 WSM (just to practice with cause it is a huge overkill).


  2. I recomend a WInchester Wildcat or a Remington Model 5. They are reliable(mostly the model 5). Both r .22's

    Your just shooting for practice. Get what you want. I would steer clear of a .22lr myself, might not be too humane. A .17hmr or similar would be a inexpensive choice. .22 mag, and on up from there too.

    Marlin, Savage, Remington, etc.
