What is a good punishment if your "child" scratches you?

My "child" scratched me when I picked him up to give him kisses and sing a Gwen Stefani song to him. It hurt real bad, so I dropped him on the bed, and cursed at him. What is a good way to punish him. I thought about not giving him his special food for snack today since it hurt real bad, and there was no reason for him to do it. Here is my scratch, for emphasis:

slap him on the hand and say you don't scratch that is bad, in a very stern voice. but don't forget he is just a child and stills deserves and needs hugs and kisses and needs you to tell him you love him. And don't curse at your child, that really pisses me off that you did that. Be a mother and discipline your child not teach them a swear word so you can discipline him again when he says that. oh and he isn't even a year. MAYBE he didn't mean to do it, my daughter scratches me and pulls my hair sometimes but she doesn't mean it. please don't be mean to your child.

depends how old this "child" is...do whatever to him that makes him stop like give time outs or no TV for a whole day or take something away from him for a while until he realizes to get it back is to stop scratching you..

if he keeps crying umm...ignore him? idk about that part cuz a lot of kids give aditudes and wont stop crying like forever so i guess just let him cry?

Why did you put "child" as though you were disowning them?  Why would you drop your child and swear at them?  How old is your son?  Dropping a child and swearing at them is a poor way to parent.  That is a little scratch, don't be such a wimp!

5 and up:  take away priveledges

In all cases, explain your punishment this way:  "When you scratch mom, it hurts.  See it left a mark.  When I'm hurt by you, I feel sad and angry."

The "when you ________, I feel _________" is a very good tool for teaching children about the result of their behavior.  Done young enough, you'll avoid this behavior when their older and can REALLY do some damage.

PS:  I'd avoid the cursing if possible.  Unless you want your child to express anger in that way.  I know it's hard to do and easy to say... but when you kid does the same in front of your mom or a school teacher, all eyes will be on you =)

I know you don't want to hear it but cursing and dropping are not the ideal ways of disciplining a child. Your baby is still quite young, the only thing that you need to do is hold his hand and firmly (but kindly) tell him no, that hurts mommy, make sure you say ouch! too so he know that it hurts you.

It's kind of hard to realize that he is still little and so you might have very high expectations of him, try not to set your expectations so high.

Try again, he should listen.

For starters, you need to learn patience and might need some 'parenting' counseling since you're so impatient you had to curse at your own 'child'. It was probably an accident- if he's comfortable with you, he wouldn't do anything to harm you unless he was afraid of you because of the way you treat him. I'd probably scratch you too if you tried to sing Gwen Stefani to me!

Kids do stuff to their parents all the time. They can scream, run around, break things, pull hair, etc. You don't deserve a child for dropping him and cursing at him over a scratch. Get a life.

Maybe he doesnt like gwen stefani. Cursing at them is never the answer. How old is he? If he is a baby, or toddler, then I think you are overreacting a bit. I would say maybe time out if he's over 2. One min. for every year of age. If he's younger than that, say no, and get over it.
