  1. For kids 4 and older, I'd recommend the Boston Terrier.  They are play full active dogs that are rarely biters.  Any dog can bite if provoked.   Toddlers might find Bostons too active, maybe bumping into a tot while playing.  Beagles are even tempered.  Big dogs can be sweet, but can injure by clumsiness

  2. Well, normally i'd recomend goldens or soft coated wheatons, but the best dog for kids is a small one because if big dogs get out of control, you cant control them. So go down to your local shelter and ask them if they have any dogs to suit your need, id recomend saving an older dog. If you must have a purebred, then probably Jack Russell Terrier or a Sealyham Terrier.

  3. toy Maltese ; )

  4. 1. NEVER BUY A PUPPY just LOOKS, colour along, fur type-COLOUR, fur type and looks HAS NO INDICATION OF DOGS TEMPERMENT!

    2. Consider your lifestyle-

    4. Are you out more then 8hours a day

    5. Consider your energy requirements, Size, Grooming.

    6. Don't just buy because someone says this is the dog for you, people particular on yahoo answer will give you there particular favourite breed& what suits them, not what actually suit you.

    7. Read all you can-THERE are alot of false information on the web and in books about different dog breed.

8 DON'T TRUST THOSE DOG BREED SELECTORS-MOST OF THE RESULTS ARE INCORRECT. Ex i search large breed dogs, and the Pomeranian came up, which of cause is a toy dog breed!!

    9. NEVER BUY FROM A PETSTORE, BACKYARD BREEDER, PUPPY MILL OR NEWSPAPER, DON'T BUY FROM NEXT DAY PETS OR DOG BREED INFO, RESCUE AN ADULT DOG OR SHELTER PUPPY!

    8. Unscarred Children (and Adults). If a puppy does not teethe on your possessions, it will teethe on you

and your children. Rescuers often get calls from panicked parents sure their dog is about to seriously

injure their children. It usually turns out the puppy is just doing what puppies do, i.e., mouth or nip.

Parents, too emotional to see the difference, just want to get rid of the dog. A growing puppy is going to

put anything and everything in their mouth.

It must be taught bite inhibition. As the puppy grows, the puppy's jaws become stronger and adult teeth

replace its puppy teeth. The mouthing and nipping it did as a puppy now can have serious consequences.

Far better to get an adult dog that has "been there, done that, moved on."

Adult dogs are the best option over 2yrs of age.

Oddly enough big dogs are generally more tolerant of younger children-Children grow to respect big dog more because of there larger size and are generally more cautious of them! Young children don't understand the fragile size of the Small/toy dogs and think there a toy, so they'll naturally play more roughly with a small/toy dog breed and are not as cautious and the small/toy breeds just don't understand the roughness or rouwdyness of young children and are too fragile for a 4yr old to handle-Small & toy dogs were breed for adults, so they are inclinde to be snappish if the going get rough! Larger dogs such as labrador and Golden Retriver Newfoundland and medium Collie were breed to tolerate families and young children under the age 8yrs, but are not suitable for people with allergies.

    Maltese-SUIT CHILDREN 8YRS+

Maltese are NOT suited to children, no matter how well-meaning the child. Children cannot help being clumsy, and that a child meant well is little solace to a Maltese who has been accidentally stepped on, sat on, rolled on, squeezed, or dropped onto the patio. Most Maltese feel overwhelmed by the loud voices and quick movements that children can't help making -- and stress and fearfulness (even defensive biting) may be the result.

    Dachshund-SUIT CHILDREN 8YRS+

If you have small children, I do not recommend a Dachshund. First, children cannot help being clumsy, and that a child meant well is little solace to a Dachshund puppy who has been accidentally stepped on, sat on, rolled on, squeezed, or dropped onto the patio. The Dachshund's long back is especially fragile and prone to damage when he is picked up incorrectly or dropped. Second, even Dachshund adults may feel overwhelmed by the loud voices and quick movements that children can't help making -- and stress and shyness may be the result. Finally, some Dachshunds simply do not tolerate any nonsense from children and will bite if pushed too far.

    Soft Coated Wheaten-SUIT CHILDREN 8YRS+

Another reason I do not recommend Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers for small children is their general terrier "pride." Many terriers will not tolerate any nonsense. They are quick to react to teasing, and even to the normal clumsiness that comes with small children (accidental squeezing of their ears or pulling of whiskers or stepping on their paw). Many terriers are possessive of their food and toys and will defend these from all comers, including children.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels-SUIT CHILDREN 8YRS+

If you have small children, I do not recommend Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies, no matter how well-meaning the child. Small children cannot help being clumsy, and that a child meant well is little solace to a Cavalier puppy who has been accidentally stepped on, sat on, rolled on, squeezed, or dropped onto the patio. Even Cavalier adults may feel overwhelmed by the loud voices and quick movements that children can't help making -- and stress and shyness may be the result.

    Boston Terrier.

Temperament:   Highly intelligent, alert, and enthusiastic, the Boston Terrier is affectionate and loyal. This breed is quite animated and has a lovely sense of humor. They thrive on human interaction and on being an integral part of the family. They do best in a home with children over the age of eight years and are exceedingly good with the elderly. They will generally get along with non-canine pets, although males may fight with other dogs. The Boston Terrier has a very sensitive nature and will be affected either positively or negatively by tone of voice or the home atmosphere and environment.

    staffy-SUIT children 13yrs+, require 4km daily walks!

german shepherds-EXPERIENCED OWNERS, 5KM Daily walks!

    Golden-Suit children under 8yrs+

  5. All puppies go through a few teething stages when they're young and they can get nippy. It depends how old the kids are. If any of the kids are under 6 years old, I wouldn't suggest getting a young puppy. Make sure it's at least 4 months old, or make sure the younger kids know how to handle the puppy. Golden Retrievers are great dogs, but there are so many breeds and mixes that are wonderful. I would advise stopping by your local animal shelter and getting a feel for some of the breeds before making a decision. Who knows, you may find one there that's perfect. And 25% of dogs in shelters are purebred, so keep that in mind.

  6. nothing toy size they get hurt. but golden retrievers are great dogs and german shepherds too. i have always had great luck.

  7. There are a lot of dogs that fit that description.  Go to www.petfinder.com and look at some of the pups looking for a good home.  There are pups and dogs out there that came from a family with kids, and are great with kids, love to walk, don't bite, etc. but were given up due to circumstances such are divorce, moving, foreclosure, etc.  Good luck.

  8. daushaund or golden

  9. By no means get a small dog. They are easily hurt by children, and will usually bite when injured. Depending on the age of your children, a medium sized dog would be best. I agree with the other posters, got to petfinders.com and search for a medium sized dog in your area that needs a home. They are all ready neutered, shots, and most have a family history, that would fit in quite nicely, and most are already house trained as well. Small dogs, such as Chi's, Poms, and the like, are much more adaptable with older people, or people with out children.
