  1. Pleather...

  2. Yes, we do need an alternative for "h**l for leather."

If there is such a thing as non-biodegradable Bio-plastic - then that is your answer. Plastic can be made to replicate many materials such as ivory, tortoise-shell, mother-of-pearl etc.

To be really green, the bio-plastic needs to be derived from crops that are organically grown and transported etc., using alternative energy! (The powers-that-be haven't got their heads around that one!)

  3. You could try cotton, nylon, or faux leather. There are lots of non-leather jackets and other clothes out there. !

  4. Leather actually is a green alternative. It's natural. Humans have been using it for thirty thousand years. It's all that synthetic c**p that's harmful and ridiculous. The closest "other" natural material I can think of is hemp, which is some seriously tough stuff. I understand your leather concern, but if the poor beasts are going to be slaughtered anyway, why not make the most of it's sacrifice and use the leather. You can always do what the Native Americans did before killing game - they said a prayer and thanked the animal for providing that which they needed. Then, whenever you can, give something back to nature.
