  1. I would reccomend  Outback Steakhouse or one of their other fine restaurants such as Carrabas, Flemings, Bonefish, etc.

But you must have previous serving experience to be considered as a server at any OSSI restaurant.

  2. Well first, how much experience do you have?  This will greatly affect the type of restaurant where you are likely to get hired.  You also mention several casual chain restaurants...are you against chains in general, or just those?  Chains will generally give you a chance if you have less experience...many of them also offer benefits to their employees (health insurance, tuition reimbursement, etc.).

If you have some upscale dining experience, try looking at Nine Steakhouse or Nove Italiano in Victory Park, also look at Craft and Stephen Pyle's.

If you have less experience and are looking to move into more upscale or fine dining, I would start at a casual italian restaurant...this way you get to work on your wine knowledge, which is necessary for an upscale restaurant job.  Maybe try Macaroni Grill (owned by Brinker, who also owns Chilis and On the Border).  Servers at Pappadeaux tend to make good money, but they tend to have high turnover, which raises a red flag on what kind of working environment they provide.  Maybe also look at Cheesecake Factory...again, they make great money, but the menu is HUGE! Hope you have a good memory...Good luck to you! :-)

  3. Look into fine dining. But you have to have experience.

If you don't, look into bussing or food running at a fine dining restaurant. The money is better than casual dining places. Or maybe even banquet dining. They get a set pay rate (don't start for anything under $10/hour.)

If you don't have experience, google serving techniques, learn different wine varietals, cooking techniques. Anything you can to give yourself a leg up.

  4. Do you have a Ryan's Buffet or Fire Mountain?  Tips average between $2.00 and $10.00 per table. If you can get a dinner shift and busy section you can walk out with good money in your pocket. I average about 130.00 to 160.00 per night on a 4 til close shift, 6 tables, 6 hours.
