Not just this year. But in general.

is it like 8%. higher or lower?

  1. Average is about 12%.  Could be better or worse.  This year will probably yield a negative return unless we see a huge breakthrough this second half.


  2. Historically the S&P has returned about 11% long term, including dividends.

    The last 10 years it has returned a horrific 2.7%.

    Markets do a little better under Democrats than Republicans, historically.

    So there is hope.

    I have managed to stay closer to 10% by avoiding the internet stock market bubble crash and this latest Bear market.

    But that takes a BIG picture long term view to make decisions to back off when the market is hitting new highs.

    It is contrarian investing.

  4. It could be more depending on what type of an investor you are, nearly 15percet is average. There are people who make 100 percent with smooth calculations.
