  1. How about try my favorite Rose, Vin Gris de Cigares, which is a rose made from California, usually selling at $12-15 per bottle.  It is light and fruity, with slight sweetness.  You should definitely try it.

  2. I would opt for a rose style of wine from the Provence region. White Zinfandel is actually not made using true rose methods, so the style is umm... different than that of a genuine rose. If you can find them, rose from the region of Sancerre (this area is mostly known for its Sauvignon Blanc) can be quite tasty too and inexpensive.

  3. If you are looking for a lighter red, you might consider a White Zinfandel.  Sutter Home is one of my favorite brands.  Others you might try for a switch:

    1.  Pinot Grigio

    2.  Sauvignon Blanc

    3.  Chenin Blanc

    4.  Sangeovese (this is a red, but, oh so delicious!)

    5.  Prosceco (Sparkling Italian champagne, a little dry, but flavorful)
