Can anyone suggest a good router to connect to modem to use throughout the house. My desktop is at one end of the house, while my room is at the opposite end. I need to connect two other laptops and my x-box 360 wirelessly with excellent connections.

So, what is a good router for this? I'm looking for a router within the price range of $50-100 and fairly easy to set up and use, and is dependable without any disconnections.

  1. The router that consistently has been ranking the highest is a D-Link DIR-655.  There is a USB port on it, but it does not work. The router use to be $200, and paid $120. Now it's selling for $90.  The range is the furthers, signal is strong, you can use my computers and electronic devices and regardless of what size of your house is or where you put it, the wireless will get it with a strong signal.  I've been using mine for about 8 months and love it.  Easy to set up.  I have all the security features.  At a time most routers are made of the cheap plastic and have no durability and no effort is taken in appearance, this router looks beautiful, is made of steel and is heavy. It can take a beating.  Setting it up is simple, customer support is good

I use it for my VOIP connection, 4 computers.  It reaches everywhere in m house, including the the yard.  They were the first company to have QOS.  It's a Pre-N.  That means it will transmit as fast as possible, but like any router will step down to the slowest device on the network.

Before I purchased mine, I performed extensive research.  Since my purchase, I have been looking and the new routers coming out, and still nothing that has come out is better yet.  If some day D-Link updates its firmware and gets the USB port to work and a hard drive can update wirelessly, you would reach the next level.   Realistically however, I don't see that happening.

    I hope that helps

  2. Your best bet will be a wireless-N router.  N routers do a better job of whole-house coverage.

Put it in the center of the house, if possible.  If it's at one end, you waste half of the power transmitting into the yard.

  3. A Linksys N router would be the best. Linksys G has done a great job at covering my house even through 2 floors i can get a good connection.

You might have some trouble since N is still a draft (i think), but once it is solidified, it will be awesome.
