  1. get a very cusiond one, running on the tredmill can cause alot of injuries especially to the knee and ankles as it is very hard and has a high inmpact.

The more cusiond yur trainer the better, or you will find your slef with numerous injuries that last a while, also warm up & cool down and when chosing your tredmill go for a more high end more costly tredmill as they wont have as much impact as the cheeper versions

For your shin splints ice at least twice aday and rest for a couple of weeks. when you come back to running go on grass DO NOT use a tredmill or roads as they will bring back the shin splint very quickly. wait untill you are fully recoverd and if possible run on a running trak (tartan) as this is cushiond and will reduce the chance of shin splint reacouring. when using a tredmill try not to use for more than 45 mins at a time and only about 2 times a week. alternatives in the gym are the cross trainer or bike as these are low impact, you could use these before coming back into running to build up your strenght and endurance and get back to a resonable level of fitness.

  2. The perfect shoe would be the Asics Gel Treadmill shoe designed specifically for your runs on the treadmill.  http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/produc...

For your shin splints you should probably take some down time from running maybe a couple of weeks and when you do get back into running then ice your shins after your runs and also before you go to sleep so twice a day.  If you run on grass as opposed to the treadmill/sidewalk/asphalt(street) at first your body will thank you for it greatly as the grass is a lot softer of a surface to run on and it will not re aggravate your shins.

  3. You need to get to a running shop and have your gait analysed.  Don't listen to anyone here who has just put forward any one particular shoe, because people here don't know whether you heel strike or land on your midfoot, whether you're flat footed, whether you pronate or supinate etc...

Get to a decent running shop, they will observe you running and will give you some appropriate shoes to try and chose from.

And while you have shin splints, don't run!  A shin splint today may be a stress fracture next week!

  4. Something light with cushion, I use the Adidas Ozweego Millennium.

  5. I always run barefoot... but I would use Nike Max 90s cuz they're very light!

  6. i like asics.

    some people like nike though.

go to a shoe store and see what feels best.

  7. the asics gel shoes work well. they are light, cushioned, and offer plenty support. they don't put as much stress on the legs which would be good for your shin splints.
