What is a good sea sickness preventative?

I won a two night cruise and I would love for my boyfriend to go with me. He has informed me that he has gotten sea sick once and has not been on a boat since. I didn't ask him what size the boat was. As I said, I would love for him to go with me, but I would not want him to feel uncomfortable. I had gotten sea sick once, but I was also pregnant at the time. I have been on boats/ships since with no problem. In would also liketo know if someone could get sick once and be fine after that or would it be an ongoing problem.

  1. Well, a two night cruise is not going to take you very far.

First, check out to see if the cruise is legit and not something that will end up costing you a lot of money - like joining a "travel club".  That is a big scam.

Go to a natural food store or a store like Trader Joe's and buy some candied ginger.  It will work wonders on sea sickness - and it tastes great, too.

I would steer clear of the Trans-Scope patch.  It makes you sleepy and causes dry throat.  The Dramamine now comes in a non-drowsy version, too, which makes it pretty good.

    Anyhow, have a good time.

  2. take dramamine before you board. maybe about an hour before, then just take it as directed throughout your cruise.

i recommend the pills, not the patches.

  3. Well, we are going on our 4th cruise on Sunday, July 6th. My family has never gotten sea sick. i am actually kind of surprised because my mom and brother have a pretty weak stomach compared to my dad and I. We bought these sea bands that we never used. They were wristbands with these little ball things on them that pressed on your pressure points. Also, I here that ginger works really well for sea sickness. Most likely you won't get sea sick with these huge ships these days.

  4. Many cruise ships are large enough to not make someone seasick, but if the ship hits some rocky water, it may sway slightly. Anyways Dramamine should help. Also, there is some kind of bracelet that helps with nausea. My brother had to wear one when he had chemotherapy. It helped him to feel less nauseas. Your boyfriend can research that for himself, as I don't know what it is called. Also, the cruise is only two nights. It would be worse if it was a 5 or 7 night cruise. Hopefully he will be comfortable going with you! If not, take a good friend and you'll have fun anyways.

  5. I use a c-band that goes around your arm by your hand, I been using it for 7 cruises, it work great!!!

  6. ginger. Ginger cordial

  7. Dramamine pills r probably the best thing to take to avoid sea sickness. Also, try not to eat any sandwiches and try not to drink any pop.

    trust me

  8. Dramamine or a prescription patch

  9. My husband and I just finished our first cruise this weekend.  The best way for us was the pills.  I took one daily, but we were gone for 14 nights.  There was one day that we hit a storm off the coast of Portugual and it was really rocky, so I bought a wrist band as well, which helped a lot.  You can't really feel the ship move too much.  But as my mom told me, its always better to be prepared for seasickness!

So I suggest pills!  And dont worry about it, cause that always makes me feel worse.

Have a fantastic time!  We sure did :)

  10. Some people swear by ginger capsules or the wrist bands or the patches.  You can also use benadryl [effectively the same ingredient as Dramamine, but most likely cheaper].

The larger ships have stabilizers which minimize the motion.  But since you're on a two-day cruise, I'm assuming it's not one of the major mass-market cruise lines, so it may be a smaller ship and not have them.
