  1. Depends on the time of broadcast....and the overall station format.

For music format stations, I'd go for a late night "Classic Album Hour", where you track an entire band's album from some 30 or so years ago--and fill in with a short monologue of interesting little known facts about the band and/or the album featured.  This works out well for ANY music genre.

Another good music segement, using the same "classic albums" is featuring a "Music Vault" segment--where you air good songs on these albums--that didn't make much, if any, airplay.

Both these music segements can also be hosted, every now and then, by a "winner" of the audience in some sponsored station promotion.

On talk radio....what's NOT being discussed?

One talk radio type segment I found worked fantastically well was one where the broadcaster allowed audience to promote on air household items for sale no longer needed....kinda like a on-air "yard sale" program, lasting about an hour.

Then of course, there's the birthday wishes for loyal station listeners--something that works really well during the AM early morning drive time broadcasts.

  2. Sports talk or News
