  1. Any cheap set from Argos or Soccer Sports, usually about £100

  2. If you are a beginner, go get a basic set from Target or Walmart.  I'd recommend Top Flite clubs for a beginning golfer.  The brand used to have a reputation for being trash, but they were bought out by Callaway golf and the quality of their products has greatly improved.  They currently offer a complete set that includes a putter, PW-6 iron, 4-5 hybrids, 3-5 woods, driver, and a stand bag for around $200.  That and buying some inexpensive balls should be all you need to get started.

  3. It's the weekend. Go to some garage sales and see what you can pick up.

I used those types of sets until I broke 120, then I rewarded myself with a better set.

  4. If you've never tried golf before, there's no need for you to spend much at all until you've found out if you like the sport and will play somewhat regularly. See if you can find some used clubs at a sporting goods store like Play It Again Sports or something similar. Once you've been to the driving range a couple times and maybe even had a few rounds on a course, you'll know more if golf is for you or not.

If you know you're going to play at least a couple times a month or more and will stick with it, you should invest a little more time and money into your set. No sense in getting junk that needs to be replaced in a matter of months or year or so.

If that's the case, check out discount online retailers like Rock Bottom Golf (my favorite) or Global Golf.  They've got complete sets like this one from Dunlop [ http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/dunlop-gol... ] or Tiger Shark [ http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/tiger-shar... ] that has everything you need. It'll get you into the sport and should be enough for you at least through the end of the year.

Eventually you can step up to something like the Adams GT 500 irons [ http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/adams-golf... ], which are good for beginners but also has enough quality to last you a couple years as you improve.

Just know that golf is frustrating and takes some getting used to. Your best bet overall may be to find a friend who knows what they're doing, or even a local instructor to introduce you to golf.

    Best of luck!
