I live in edmond, ok and I would like to plant some shrubs/bushes that have some color around the front of my house. They would get almost full sun and I was hoping for something low maintenance. I dont know anything about gardening. Any recommendations?

  1. Depending on the size of shrubs wanted I would recommend Nandina's.  There are several varieties including size and color.

Gulf Stream are larger and more resilent.  Dwarf offer more variety in color and need little or no triming.

Consider if you want shrubs that are green all year or just summer time.

As a landscape / irrigation guy I do not like hollies that have pointed leaves, but they are nice to look at when they have red berries.

  2. I've always found pyracantha to be a good shrub for dry weather.  You'll get dainty white flowers in the spring and gorgeous orange berries in the fall. Drought doesn't seem to phase them.  I've also planted a dwarf version of pomegranite that thrived in New Mexico.  My mother-in-law's lilacs were beautiful in New Mexico.
