I have my own table, but never really learned how to put english on the cue ball properly. I can get it to curve a little bit, but I have seen shots that curve severly and also back up and such.

  1. GO GET A BOOK.

  2. There are some really good books written by Robert Bryne and Philip Capelle. Also try to look at videos on Youtube and pool websites. It takes time to learn

  3. It sounds like you're talking about masse. It's a difficult thing to do, but there are some things you can try. At least you have your own table, but I'll just warn you that you can damage the cloth.

The basics of the masse are that you have to elevate the back end of your cue and hit the cue ball into the table with spin (hold your cue perpendicular to the table). You're trying to put more spin on it than forward speed. Make sure you chalk your tip so you can put good spin on the ball. You also have to hit down hard and straight; don't be afraid to hit the cloth. You can do shorter masse's just by jabbing the cue ball really quick though without actually hitting the cloth. You can experiment with the angle of elevation, how hard you hit the cue ball, and what kind of spin you put on it to see what the different effects are.

Give that a try and let me know if you have any more questions.

  4. ?

  5. You can do a couple of things. Purchase a book by Robert Byrne titled Standard Book of Pool and Billiards. There are some great illustrations there with easy to follow instructions. You can also go to www.youtube.com and click on the video page, then type in cue ball draw, or cue ball control, or anything along those lines in the search box. You'll find quite a bit there. I hope that helps.
