  1. dont get a bike that old......

you should go for a Suzuki DR 400 or a Honda XR 400. those would be great bikes for you and hitting the trails and desert........

  2. A 250 has too much power for a beginner, start with a 125 and go with that for awhile, as for the age of that bike, get with the modern stuff, that bike is too old. I know they're cheaper, but parts are hard to come by when you need them. Besides the technology has changed drasticly since then.

  3. Hey, don't go that old. The  problem you will run into is finding parts.  Dirt bikes will need replacement parts to run correctly, even when properly maintained. I have a '99 YZ and getting parts isn't much of a problem yet but they are getting harder to find.  I can't imagine looking for parts on a 23 year old bike, probably close to impossible.  Save yourself the frustration and buy something newer. 2002 or better.  It will be worth it in the long run.

  4. Yeah, I agree with everyone else, if you can afford a newer bike definitely get something built in the last 10 years.  A XR250 is probably too small for someone of your weight, though as a beginner it may be fine for the first year.  If you are unsure if you are even going to like riding then maybe that old bike is the best way to find out if you really are into the sport enough to invest in something bigger and better.  A bike that old must have been through a ton of repairs and replacement parts, have you taken it for a test ride or checked the suspension and brakes?  Those old XR were rock solid, but 22 years old is definitely pushing it for a dirt bike, probably needs a engine rebuild if it never had one.

  5. cr 500 1996 honda

  6. go with a yamaha yz250 like an 2001 or a 2002 arts are easier to find and these bikw will pull you around very very good

  7. 250 or so.  Lot's of Motorcycle scrap yards have spare parts for older bikes.

    Ride on!!

  8. weighing 200 lbs i would suggest a 250cc two stroke,or if your looking at a 4 stroke, get something over 400cc. an xr250 is a pretty small 4 stroke..hope this helps

  9. You would get a better response in "Cars & Transportation"> "Motorcycles", This is "Motorcycle Racing"

  10. Firstly I would not buy the XR 250R as at the age it is you are just buying trouble.   You may not have a large outlay for the actual bike but you will be paying for it all the time with what will go wrong with it and then you have the problem of getting the parts.

For someone your size I would suggest you go for a 450cc as I think a 250 would be struggling.

  11. Hey man if your around 200 lbs and you still wanna scoot pretty good you might wanna get the CRF 450F! The bike has tons of torque high end and low end. If you wanna good bike get that but try to get a early 2004 to a 2006.  Its a great bike and would run great with you on it! Dont get a old bike because you dont know what that bike is gonna do it is probably a POS if the person is selling it for $800...

  12. that sounds a bit steep for and old bike like that,, I think brand new they were like $875.

You might want to get a newer model,, check out the mid 1990's XR 400, or 600. they are both bullet proof and rider friendly.doont forget yer helmet and boots.
