What is a good size for my surfboard?

I live in the San Francisco area, where waves can be huge, and the sharks are Great.

Im a beginner, but athleticlly gifted.

Im 6' 1", and weigh 220.

What would be a good size board for me?

  2. well it all depends.  there are three different kinds of boards.  1) shortboard which is used for tricks mostly.  2)  Longboard which is good for catching smaller waves 3)  Paddle board the longest and yup you guessed it you use a paddle to move and catch waves.  since your a beginer you should start off with a longer board say 8 to 9 feet.  if you do decide to get a smaller board for tricks (this will be a lot harder to learn on) than you want something 4 inches taller than you.  and paddle boards are just fun.  you should also try body boarding it helps with learning when to catch a wave and skateboarding will help with learning how to balance and turn.  hope it helps
