What is a good size surfboard to get?

I currently body board and i wanna start surfing, but im gunna get a shortboard because i dont wanna buy a soft board and sell it then buy all this other stuff.

So, would a 6'4 shortboard be an acceptable size, ive been on a surfboard 3 times, but im just wondering, im 5'9, if that helps or anything.

Boards are chosen by your weight, skill, and local surf. Visit a surf shop in your area and find out which one would be right for you and your break. A 6'4 may be too big for you. Check it out before you invest your money on a surfboard.
