  1. i use a 34 inch 31 ounce bat (-3) but im a sophomore in college, idk how old you are. Yes i do wear batting gloves because i take about 600 swings a day and if i didnt my hands would be torn

  2. There really isn't a good sized bat overall. Bats are sized and weighted, so your own age, size and strength are important factors. You should go to a sporting goods store and figure out what is comfortable for you and your swing, specifically. As for batting gloves, in the spring, when it is cold, it can sting like crazy if you don't make solid contact. Batting gloves really help with that. They also help sweaty hands maintain a good grip when it is hot.

  3. You want the lightest bat possible, with the minimum length necessary to function.  (Check the other kids bats to get an idea of what an appropriate length is for your...or your sons...current age/size).  If you have the means, the high performance bats ($$$) do make a difference.  If you don't, or are not sure if baseball is going to be a regular thing yet, grab the bat at the very end and hold straight out in front of you (straight arm, stiff elbow).  If you can't comfortably hold it parallel to the ground straight out in front of you like that...it's too heavy.   Remember big hits come from bat speed (and good form), not bat weight.  A-Rod is a monster and he swings a super light bat.

  4. Iit really depends on your size and build...
