i'm new to car audio and wondering what I can put into my car for my money. I would be more than willing to do some research to save me some installation fees, or talk to some buddies who know what they're doing. Between gas, insurance, and other annoyances, i'd like to spend somewhere around $400-$800.

I'm running the factory system on a 2000 grand prix, and i'm just considering a head unit, single sub, amp, and head speakers.

  1. I'm not an expert on this, but I would suggest you take a tour here, there are expert's tips over there.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...

  2. when it comes to car audio nine times out of ten you get what you pay for- and you need to look for CEA-compliant brands which means that the amps have been tested and produce or exceed the advertised RMS wattage with minimum distortion and the subs can handle their advertised RMS wattage also (distortion is the main cause of speaker damage)

here are the top CEA-compliant brands

    Alpine (highly recommend)

    Bazooka (don't like their subs)

    Blaupunkt (don't like their subs)

    Clarion

    Eclipse

    Infinity (highly recommend)

    JBL

JL Audio (very good but over priced)

    JVC

    Kenwood (don't like their subs)

Kicker (the best in my opinion)

    MTX (highly recommend)

    Pioneer

    Polk Audio (highly recommend)

    PPI

    Rockford Fosgate (highly recommend)

    Sony (don't like their subs)

you want at least 400watts RMS if you are serious and two subs not one, and the radio is all up to you (look for one eith a sub out so that you can control your subs from the radio)

here is a nice set of subs and a couple amps that would match up with them for about $400 and has 600watts RSM total

these subs http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3867... with this amp http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8651... or this amp http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5027...

  3. Your best bet would be to check crutchfield you can actually send an email to them or talk to a rep they will set you up with a good sounding system on a budget.
